Have you cleaned your feet lately?
Do you remember when you were a child and you were playing outside and somehow have
gotten your sneakers wet and muddy and it's cold out and you're starting to shiver. Or as
an adult you were working outside on a cold day and got you feet all wet and you start to
feel cold?. I was always told that if you keep your feet dry and clean you
will not feel as cold but once your feet get wet and your socks get all wet your whole
body starts to feel cold and if you could only change your socks and put on warm sneakers
you would feel like new again.
Do you remember the scripture where Jesus said to Peter, let me wash your feet and
Peter said no so Lord but wash my whole body? Let's read the scripture
together.
John 13:5-11 After that he poured water into a bason, and
began to wash the disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith to him, Lord, dost thou wash my
feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou
shalt know hearafter. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet.
Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith
unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him,
He that is washed needeth not except to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are
clean, but not all.
What was Jesus talking about here when he said that He that is washed needeth not except to wash his feet, but is clean
every whit you are totally clean and you don't need to
wash your whole body Peter? What he was talking about was the new birth. Being
Born Again. When we become born again we are totally clean and we need not to be
born again, again. But what we need to do is to come to the Lord for forgiveness for
our sins. In 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness." That's a fact. If we
confess our sins he cleanses us from all unrighteousness. He makes us new.
This is a on going process. Yes we are born again but we
need to confess our sins to cleanes ourselves, otherwise we start feeling cold and
dirty. Jesus in John 13 was talking about us confessing our sins and him
cleansing our feet. We are born again but as we walk through this world our feet get
dirty and filthy but our total soul and spirit is still saved but our feet get dirty and
we need Jesus to clean them and when we confess our sins unto him he wipes them clean and
puts on a fresh clean pair of socks and sneakers. Now we do not have to feel
alienated from God. When we sin and do not confess our sin we get dirty and messy
and our spirit starts to get cold. Just confess your sins and he will clean your
feet again and you can keep on your walk. So my question is
"Have you cleaned your feet lately?"
